The Drumright Fire Department consists of 5 career and 21 paid per call firefighters. Outside of assisting in emergency situations, these firefighters serve their community by performing fire prevention education in the schools and assisted living areas, fundraising for cancer patients, and even help with the planning of community events. The main objective with this project has been to promote wellness and physical fitness. The Drumright Fire Department wanted to set the bar for other rural fire departments in the area as far as wellness and fitness are concerned. With the funding awarded from the FEMA Assistance to Firefighter Grant, they were be able to buy commercial grade Life Fitness Integrity cardio and Hammer Strength Plate-Loaded strength & conditioning equipment. It is no secret that heart attacks are the leading cause of all firefighter fatalities, accounting for 50 % on average, of firefighter line-of-duty deaths. With the funding they received to implement a health and wellness program, The Drumright Fire Department will be ahead of the curve in changing this statistic.
